One of our favorite features of SteamVR is the ability to change the compositor background image. So, to celebrate Vive Day, we’ve created and collected some special anniversary images for you to enjoy both in and out of VR. We hope you enjoy these as much as we enjoyed creating and curating them.

Background Images for SteamVR Compositor
How to change your background image for SteamVR
- Click on the image above that you want to use (it’ll open in a new window)
- Right-click on the image
- Choose Save image as…
- Save the image in %SteamDirectory%\steamapps\common\SteamVR\resources\backgrounds
- Open SteamVR
- Put on the VIVE headset and grab your controllers
- Press the System button on either controller to open the Steam dashboard
- Go to Settings, then Customize
- Select your new background from the thumbnail images (you may need to know the filename)
- We suggest to deselect Use dome projection
Desktop Wallpapers – 2560 x 1440 (best for Macbook Air, iMac and PC)
Desktop Wallpapers – 2560 x 1600 (best for Macbook Pro)
How to download and apply desktop wallpapers
- Click on the wallpaper image above that you want to use (it’ll open in a new window)
- Right-click on the image
- Choose Save image as…
- Save the image in the folder of your choice
- Apply the image as your desktop wallpaper in settings or system preferences
