Interestingly, the team behind the debut comeback single "かもね" (kamone) includes Kizuna AI's original voice actress, Nozomi Kasuga. Since revealing her role in 2020, Nozomi has been a consultant for Kizuna AI Inc. After her contract ended, she expressed her continued support for Kizuna AI's future activities. During the Multiple A.I. era from 2019-2021, some fans suspected a voice change for Kizuna AI. This confirmation that Nozomi remains the voice behind Kizuna AI has reassured many fans, strengthening the bond within the VTuber community.

"かもね" translates to "Maybe," with lyrics co-written by ESME MORI, Nishina, and Kizuna AI. The song's themes revolve around "awakening," "reunion," and "fulfilling inner desires," depicting a journey of waking from slumber and reclaiming scattered light. It reflects on the past, hopes for the future, and the longing to reconnect with significant others, resonating deeply with the VTuber community.

In the lyrics, Kizuna AI sings: "A messy sleeping posture, as if dreaming for a long time. What are you doing now? Have you forgotten? Alone, trapped in pessimistic delusions, yet I still play your song. Don't discard those many lost memories." This resonates with fans who have been eagerly waiting. The lines "Say hello again, as seasons change, leaving me behind. Say hello again, because everything will pass, maybe now is beautiful." reference her last concert "Hello, World" and her famous song "Again." These calls to reflect on the past and move towards the future are filled with emotion, showing how much Kizuna AI cherishes her fans and her place in the VTuber community.

Besides the MV, Kizuna AI shared more details in a nine-minute comeback announcement video "I'm Back" (ただいま). She mentioned past doubts about meeting fans' expectations, which led her to pause activities for an update. Her three-year break was to upgrade herself and connect with more people worldwide. She emphasized the importance of music, stating that from sleep to awakening, music is key. It transcends language and prejudice, serving as the best way to build deep connections with fans, further solidifying her role in the VTuber community.

Feeling refreshed after waking up!

She’s set to release over 10 songs in 2025—maybe even a full album—and hints at live performances. Her next single might drop in March (possibly the 12th or 19th), so she’s going all in! With Hatsune Miku making waves on the big screen, could 2025 be a breakthrough year for virtual idols and Vtubers. What do you think?
