Across multiple disciplines such as manufacturing, architecture, and healthcare, it’s become increasingly important for workers to collaboratively view high-fidelity 3D models together – even if they’re working in different cities or countries. At VIVERSE we’re tackling this challenge with a breakthrough technology called Polygon Streaming. This innovation makes it easy to view 3D models together with colleagues across a range of devices from XR headsets through to tablets. At the same time, Polygon Streaming reduces bandwidth requirements while maintaining high-fidelity visuals, making it a seamless experience for distributed workers.
Polygon Streaming enables group visualization of 3D assets of up to millions of polygons. It's compatible with virtually any device—PCs, Macs, AR and VR devices, tablets, and mobile phones. This universal adaptability ensures that high-quality, high-fidelity models are accessible to all, regardless of the hardware in use.
One of the key advantages of Polygon Streaming lies in its intelligent optimization. Unlike other viewing methods that might compromise the integrity of the original models, our technology retains every detail. Every polygon, texture map, and material information is preserved, allowing creators to utilize them accurately in their preferred editors.
To enhance efficiency, Polygon Streaming employs a technique known as occlusion culling. This method ensures that only the visible parts of an object are rendered, thereby not wasting resources on unseen elements. This approach not only optimizes performance but also significantly reduces the project size as assets are hosted in the cloud. Users can dynamically alter their models without the need to rebuild or recompile projects, thus streamlining the design and review process.
Another significant benefit of Polygon Streaming is its reduced dependence on costly cloud GPU infrastructure. All rendering is performed locally, thanks to our optimization techniques and adaptive rendering capabilities. This not only cuts down on costs but also enhances the speed and responsiveness of object visualization.
At HTC VIVE, we're not just talking about potential; we're showing it. At recent industry events, we compared a Unity-based game that utilizes Polygon Streaming technology against one that doesn’t. Comparing the versions with and without Polygon Streaming, the differences were stark. With Polygon Streaming, the project size was dramatically reduced, yet the visual quality remained fantastic and operated flawlessly within Unity.
Additionally, we showed how Polygon Streaming can render a detailed, 5.4 million-polygon cyborg model in a web browser. This demo illustrated the capability to maintain full fidelity of a complex 3D asset in a simple browser environment, viewable on computers, tablets, and even mobile phones.
As we continue to innovate and push the boundaries of what's possible in digital visualization, HTC VIVE's Polygon Streaming technology aims to help people around the globe bring their most detailed and immersive digital creations to life, effortlessly and efficiently. The future of 3D modeling and visualization is here, and it's more accessible, adaptive, and awe-inspiring than ever.
