Many of you who are interested in virtual idols and the vtuber world have probably already heard the good news - Public Television will be hosting the inaugural Gold V Award to award outstanding VTubers who continue to innovate and create their ever-evolving virtual personas. Also now open for submission at the same time is the Avatar Awards 2023. Organized by the VRM Alliance this award aims to promote the Avatar Universal Format.

The Avatar Awards have been held since 2020, and every year, they select the best 3D Avatar of the year based on the three indicators of fashion, innovation, and personality. This year, they have invited Taro Yokoo, the game director of the "NieR" series, and the well-known fashion creative director Ayumi Gunji as judges. The works will be divided into two categories, "Avatar" and "Avatar Life," with the former focusing on the appearance design of the Avatar and the latter needing to demonstrate the interactivity and the liveliness of the Avatar.
So, how should the avatar be presented to be lively? The official statement says that as long as entrants showcase "interactivity between virtual characters" or "unique activities of virtual characters," they will be qualified. So there is quite a lot of room for creativity.
The entry method is also very simple— just upload a photo on X (Twitter) and add the hashtags #AvatarAward2023 and #AvatarLife2023.
The submission period starts from October 2nd and ends on the 23rd, and the winners will be announced at the Avatar Awards 2023 ceremony held on December 22nd. If you want to participate in the fashion show segment after winning, you can prepare in advance according to the official announcement. In addition, the nominated works will also be displayed at the large-scale VR event "Vket 2023 Winter" held from December 2nd to 17th, and the "Audience Choice Award" will be selected through a popular vote. It is worth mentioning that the Avatar Awards also present a "Special Achievement Award," such as Kizuna AI, who won in 2020, and the virtual girl Nem, who won in 2022, to acknowledge these VTubers who showcase the charm of virtual idols in the form of 3D Avatars. I wonder if they will also present a Special Achievement Award this year? It seems that in addition to the Gold V Award, there is another awards ceremony to look forward to in December.
