When the iconic theme song "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" starts playing, it instantly transports you back to the late '90s and the world of the anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion." Exciting news for fans: it's finally being adapted into an XR game! According to UploadVR, South Korean game studio Pixelity Inc. has teamed up with Japanese animation company Khara to develop an XR game based on the storyline and universe of the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" anime, expected to launch next year.

Details about the game are still under wraps, but we know players will take on the role of a newly created protagonist. Besides completing various missions and engaging in battles, the storyline will closely follow the anime's original timeline and key events. Pixelity has also hinted that players will be able to interact and collaborate with classic characters from the anime. It seems the rivalry between Rei and Asuka fans will continue in the game — and of course, Kaworu fans won't be left out.
While "Neon Genesis Evangelion" has spawned numerous manga, movies, and merchandise, its XR presence has so far been limited to experiences like VR ZONE SHINJUKU's "Evangelion VR The Throne of Souls: Berserk" in Tokyo and the "Evangelion XR RIDE" at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. This new game marks the first time fans can experience "Evangelion" in XR from the comfort of their own homes.
It's worth noting that, due to the significant changes introduced in the later movies, this adaptation emphasizes its foundation on the original 26-episode series. Fans are eager to see how classic scenes will be portrayed — such as the "62-second battle" where Units 01 and 02 defeat the Angel of Music, the launch of the Lance of Longinus by Unit 00, or Unit 01 going into berserk mode.
And of course, there's the classic scene of Kaworu's demise — spoiler alert. (Source: Yrel)
