XR training for military and defence unlocked at IT2EC 2024

VIVE Team • April 9, 2024

5 minutes read

From 9-11th April 2024, HTC VIVE is teaming up with RedboxVR to showcase latest XR advancements at IT²EC defence training technology conference in London, UK. As Europe’s premier dedicated event for defence and military training technologies, IT²EC brings together an exciting mix of evolving tech and training simulations designed for the sector.

Extended Reality (XR) training offers huge potential across the military and defence sector. Through highly immersive experiences that simulate potential real-world scenarios and incorporate realistic tools and weapons, trainees can develop skills in a safe and controlled environment.

Together with RedboxVR on stand B32, we will be demonstrating a flight simulator experience on our enterprise-level headset VIVE Focus 3 and exploring the potential of accurate XR tracking with our compact, versatile and self-tracking' VIVE Ultimate Tracker.

Training the next generation of The Royal Air Force

XR can make huge impact in the world of specialist training – be it for seasoned field experts, or the next generation of traineesA group of Royal Air Force Air Cadets recently experienced how immersive VR can be used for training purposes, through a collaboration with Redbox VR, Spawnpoint by Fennec Labs and VIVE hardware.

To understand how VR can be applied in training the next generation, cadets at its training facility took part in various exercises which used props to represent real-world equipment. Using enterprise-grade standalone VIVE Focus 3 headsets, cadets got hands on with RE:COIL, a VR shooter experience enabled by the innovative Spawnpoint platform leveraging first-class Location-Based Entertainment software.

Cadets also experienced the Mavrik-Pro haptic feedback rifle from StrikerVR. By adding realistic recoil and vibration feedback during gameplay, cadets were able to see the potential of tactile feedback technology, creating like life VR simulations ideal for precise and realistic training scenarios.

Multi-user VR training by HOLOGATE

At IT²EC 2024, VIVE hardware is also on display on booth F50, as our partner HOLOGATE showcases its HGXR M system - featuring VIVE Focus 3 Headsets and VIVE Ultimate Tracker.

HOLOGATE’s HGXR M system is a compact and flexible mobile multifunctional system that turns any room into a virtual training room within minutes, featuring a dynamic virtual room size up to 1000m² / 10000 ft².

This set up is perfect in large scale multi-user scenarios like military and defence training exercises, combining state-of-the-art hardware with intuitive software so trainees and their weapons can be tracked seamlessly in a virtual environment. The results? Efficient and effective training in a functional space for scenarios like close-quarters battle, military training and police training, with deep level immersion which helps trainees stay focused and increases learning retention.
