Recently, the buzz around AI topics has cooled, but one related field remains exciting—humanoid robots with AI integration. Robots embody a significant element of futuristic dreams but are far from becoming household staples. However, recent developments in technology, academia, and even the entertainment industry keep the news about humanoid robots consistently exciting. Recently, the coffee-making humanoid robot Figure 01 has been succeeded by its next generation—Figure 02.

What is so impressive about the Figure 02? Here are the top 5 highlights:
The most obvious change is the appearance. The previous generation, Figure 01, resembled a prototype, but as you can see, Figure 02 has eliminated exposed wiring, marking a significant step from prototype towards mass production.

From the teaser video to the official product video, Figure 02's fingers are notably more agile. Indeed, dexterous fingers are key to humanoid robots being genuinely helpful (AI, please stick to the menial tasks). Officially, Figure 02 boasts 16 degrees of freedom (DOF) and a load capacity of 25 kilograms.
Figure 02 is equipped with six built-in RGB cameras, enabling environmental awareness. Additionally, through built-in speakers and microphones integrated with ChatGPT's voice capabilities, Figure 02 can smoothly interact with humans, observe and mimic human behavior to learn autonomously.
The battery capacity has been increased to 2.25 KWh, boosting Figure 02's endurance by 50%, allowing it to operate for up to 7.5 hours—closely mirroring the typical human workday.
Of course, Figure 02's computational power has also significantly increased, boasting three times the processing and AI inference capabilities of its predecessor, enabling it to perform even more complex tasks.

With near-human dexterity, human-level load capacity, and work endurance, these three aspects highlight the future potential of humanoid robots. Currently, Figure 02 is also collaborating with BMW, serving as a helpful addition to the factory floor, aiming to apply humanoid robots in the automotive manufacturing industry and targeting labor-intensive markets like warehousing.
Finally, here's a teaser—did you know? Humanoid robots have significant connections with virtual reality technology, digital twins, and the metaverse. What exactly are these connections? We'll cover this topic in detail in an upcoming article.
