Do you remember a few months ago when Apple launched the Vision Pro, making "spatial computing" a buzzword that seemed to overshadow other tech terms like VR/AR/MR/XR? Apple showcased its remarkable ability to "redefine" technology and also sparked a wave of imagination. For instance, a Shopify VR/AR head posted a demo video on X, demonstrating how they used a Dyson vacuum cleaner, equipped with advanced sensing technology, for "spatial cleaning", which left many people in awe. Surprisingly, what seemed like a playful experiment has now become a reality!

Last week, the high-end British appliance brand, Dyson, proudly introduced a new feature called "CleanTrace." In essence, this feature is similar to the "spatial cleaning" concept shared on X, but instead of using VR headset cameras for mixed reality, it utilizes the iPhone's LiDAR camera for spatial sensing. By mounting a smartphone holder onto a Dyson vacuum cleaner and syncing it with the MyDyson App, users can enjoy the cool feature of "visualizing floor cleaning" with their Dyson vacuum.
Dyson's official brand color purple is now painted onto your floor (virtually), letting you visualize your cleaning path in mixed reality, simultaneously showcasing Dyson's confidence in their vacuum cleaners' capabilities-- one sweep is seemingly all it will take for a clean floor, something my old Dyson cannot achieve. If you've recently purchased a Dyson Gen5Detect model vacuum cleaner, you can buy a smartphone holder accessory from the official store and pair it with your iPhone (make sure your iPhone has a LiDAR camera) to experience this brand way of spatial cleaning with the MyDyson app.
With such a trendy and fun approach to cleaning, are you tempted to give it a try?
