The annual VR Lifestyle Survey, initiated in 2021 by Virtual Idol Nem, a leading expert in Metaverse culture, aims to gather feedback from virtual universe residents to foster a sense of community identity and showcase the boundless possibilities of VR platforms.

Metaverse Identity Survey. This year's survey is cross-platform, inviting participation from various VR communities to delve into the nuances of virtual identity! (Source: Nem x Mila)

In previous years, the survey primarily focused on social lifestyles within the Metaverse. This year, it shifts slightly to explore 'Identity in the Metaverse.' Besides the usual fixed questions about VR avatar choices and motivations, it includes four open-ended questions to understand the impact of interactions between real-world identities and virtual avatars.

This year's theme carries an academic flair, thanks to the involvement of Liudmila Bredikhina, a Metaverse advocate and anthropologist from Switzerland who specializes in the study of Japan's Babiniku culture and is also a Metaverse resident herself. To enhance the survey's effectiveness, it is conducted under the supervision of the Human Augmentation Research Center (HARC) at Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. The survey enjoys support from the academic community and assistance from VR communities and VR platforms, including HTC VIVE, IMMERSIVE WIRE, AXON PARK, GLITCHES.VR, and VR CLUB AT UIUC, helping to disseminate it more widely.

Notably, this survey is cross-platform, welcoming responses from users of VRChat, Cluster, Virtual Cast, and VIVERSE, who are shaping their VR avatar experiences!

Here are the survey's basic methodology, purpose, eligibility criteria, and dates:

Method:A public bilingual survey (Japanese and English) conducted via Google Forms, is estimated to take about 10 to 20 minutes to complete.

Purpose:To gain a deeper qualitative understanding of the nature of social VR users' identities. The report will be released free of charge. Participants' anonymity will be guaranteed.

Eligibility:Users who have used social VR (VRChat, Neos VR, cluster, Virtual Cast, etc.) with a VR head-mounted display at least 5 times in the last year. (Please refrain from answering if you connect to Social VR only from desktop or phone)
