Following the previous impactful update, has your VIVE XR Elite become even more user-friendly? Today, the development team has released the latest FOTA 6.0 update, bringing a series of new features and fixes. Not only does it make connecting and switching smoother, but it also introduces some cool beta features for users to experience in advance. Now, let me introduce the updates you need to know:
Previously, users may have encountered controller compatibility issues when using SteamVR content. Thanks to the efforts of Valve and the VIVE team, significant improvements have been made, so users no longer have to spend as much time binding and identifying XR Elite controllers. Additionally, the accuracy of scanning the QR Code has been improved, allowing for a faster connection between the headset and the PC.
Furthermore, VIVE Streaming now supports Open Sound Control (OSC) format. OSC is a communication protocol specifically designed for music and multimedia, providing high flexibility and interoperability. It is widely used in various fields such as lighting control, animation, games, and virtual reality.
In the future, VIVE XR Elite will be able to easily interact with other devices or software that support OSC. For example, when the VIVE's mysterious self-tracking tracker and facial tracker kit are released, using these kits in VRChat will become even more seamless, without the need for additional third-party plugins. Your avatar will come to life even more!
At first glance, this feature may be a bit confusing, and you might think, "Is it for room decoration?" Well, when playing games, we may not pay much attention to the precision of space settings. However, in business, exhibition, or virtual office scenarios, accurately defining the boundaries is crucial. And yes, you can also use it to measure things or even your colleague's height... if you want to.Drawing polygonal spaces is no longer a problem!
This feature is really cool! Just go to the "Advanced" menu in the settings and enable the beta feature "Direct manipulation." This is not just a gesture tracking and control feature. Typically, in VR, there is a set of specific gestures for operating the interface, such as "pinching" to select. However, for those who are new to VR, there is a learning curve. With this "Direct manipulation" test feature, the VR interface becomes similar to a common touch interface, allowing you to directly use your fingers to tap and slide, making the operation more intuitive. It's easy to find the beta feature in the settings and enable it.
Of course, the continuously improving VIVE XR Elite has also improved many other features. For example: it is now easier to participate in beta features, simply go to the settings to enable or disable them without the need for email registration; when putting on the headset from standby mode, the headset defaults to pass-through mode, allowing you to check the surrounding environment before immersing in the VR world; you can now turn off the headset by long-pressing the headset button when it is in standby mode; USB data transfer speed is no longer limited, and more.
After saying so much, I still encourage you to try the XR Elite yourself and see if it has become even better. Personally, I have tested it and found that the overall experience has improved significantly! If you have any more questions or suggestions, feel free to let the VIVE team know~
