VIVE POST-WAVE Team • Jan. 24, 2025

1-minute read

While Hatsune Miku has always been a powerhouse in rhythm games, her collaboration with the Fortnite Festival has fans buzzing with excitement! Previously, Fortnite has featured big-name performers like hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg, rock icons Metallica, Lady Gaga, and Billie Eilish. This time, they’ve teamed up with Japan’s ultimate virtual idol, Hatsune Miku, bridging the gap between the digital and real worlds. Even though some fans are a little underwhelmed by Miku's skin, the official Season 7 trailer had long-time fans cheering, "Finally, the day has come!"

This collaboration brings exclusive outfits and items from Hatsune Miku, along with several classic songs integrated into the festival's rhythm game, offering players a rich musical experience. For instance, her iconic "Leek Spin" is now a fun accessory called "Leek-to-go," and there's a cat-ear-inspired keyboard guitar. Plus, her signature moves "Miku Miku Beam" and "Miku Live" let players capture her stage charisma in-game.

Several of Hatsune Miku's classic tracks will be featured in the game, including:

  • “Miku” (Anamanaguchi)
  • “World is Mine” (ryo/Supercell)
  • “Daisy 2.0” (Ashnikko)
  • “M@GICAL☆CURE! LOVE ♥ SHOT!” (Sawtowne)

Additionally, players can enjoy a new feature: "Local Multiplayer Mode." This allows up to four players on the same console to form a band, each choosing a specific instrument and taking on different parts and rhythms of the song, introducing fresh cooperative and challenging gameplay.

Hatsune Miku's arrival in Fortnite seems to have captured the hearts of long-time fans while injecting fresh virtual culture elements into the game, sparking plenty of buzz. Whether virtual idols can truly engage fans within Fortnite's ecosystem, beyond just being a fleeting "one-day player" phenomenon, will depend on community feedback and item sales. Who knows, we might see more collaborations with virtual idols and even VTubers in the future. The music festival runs from now until April 8th, so Miku fans, don’t miss out!
